At this point, you have conducted two interviews and written your first draft of an essay synthesizing the information you learned from those primary sources. You may have decided to explore the topic that has emerged from your interviews, or you may want to embark on an entirely new inquiry. Whatever choice you have made, start writing about where you want to go next. Use the questions on page 62 of your textbook to prompt your writing activity: Just get some ideas down and post them here.
Now that I have researched the emotions, mindsets, and psychological factors behind the gay mind, I now am more curious about the politics of it all - legalizing gay marriage and achieving equal rights for all love and genders, allowing gay people to donate blood, preventing discrimination in the workplace, and even new laws which protect people from sexual orientation harassment. I would also be interested to find out more opinions on the emotional aspect of being gay - having more opinions than just people I know and from a wider range of subjects, I would be able to effectively describe the psychological feelings of homosexuals. I would also interview someone against gay rights, learn why they do not treat them as equals, and try to find a way to describe their feelings accurately.
ReplyDeleteSuccessful guitarist all have similar traits as far as dedication, practice, perseverance, ect... I am going to take a new direction entirely. I feel that being a guitarist and getting others viewpoints has allowed me to really understand the drive behind one. I would like to continue the idea of being successful but to a different area perhaps.
ReplyDelete1. I know much about the guitarist subculture since i am a part of it. My friends and I are all fairly accomplished guitarists.
2. I host concerts back home, so I am highly connected to the local talent.
3. I am an insider.
4. I am an insider in the sense that guitar is my primary instrument and I used to be president of guitar club in high school, and I host concerts, and most of my close friends play guitar.
5. I wanted to put into words how people feel about guitar, solidify it
Now that I have got my information from a Marine about the process after enlisting, I am curious between comparing and contrasting other branches of the military. I am sure they are all similar but I want to know what really sticks out in each branch and what makes each special.
ReplyDelete1. I know a little about how hard it is to be a Marine. My father is a Marine
2. I am not enlisted but have a better feel for what goes on after enlisting. A better feel for what a Marine feels through that process.
3. As an insider it would still be difficult since the process is always hard. If the insider is going to have a difficult time, then you already know an outsider will too.
4. I am a outsider by me not enlisting and experiencing the process. I am a insider since I have heard a great amount of what it is like after enlisting.
5. Hoping to find out what my Dad did during his time enlisted.
Now that I have gotten information on how difficult it is to be in the Army and the Marines I would like to research more about this topic. I would also like to find more people to interview and maybe even take my interviewing outside of the Army and Marines. My next goal is going to be to find someone who is or was a member of the Navy.
ReplyDelete1. What was the most difficult part while being deployed.
2. How long is the average deployment.
3. I am not an insider.
4. My roommate would be considered an insider because he is enlisted in the Army.
5. I would like to find out what an average day is like in Afghanistan.
I have done alot of research over the past year or so about bipolar disorder. I think that its an interesting topic with lots of different dimensions. I know there are many people that are embarassed about this subject and that's why i want to write about it. I dont know alot about the causes or anything like that so i would like to study that. and maybe also some of the more violent sides of the disease. I have a huge connection to bipolar disorder mainly because i have it so i know what it's like to live with it and everythign like that. It's not something many peopel like to talk about so it's kind of hard to get info out of people sometimes. Im an insider because i have it but also because i know some peopel who have it or have some other form of psychological disorder. I hope to find out about what happens to cause it and some other theories out there about bipolar disorder. also i would like to research stereotypes that are out there about different disorders.
ReplyDeleteNow that I have learned about what it is like growing up with foster children, I would like to learn more about the foster children of today. I would like to see if the foster children process has changed since my grandparent’s time, and learn more about the whole process in general.
ReplyDelete1.I do not know much about this subculture; only what I have learned through my mom. My mom, grandparents, two uncles, and a couple friends from high school are insiders.
2.The only connections I have are through my mom and grandparents experiences; none directly with foster care.
3.I am an outsider
4.I am an outsider because I have no idea what it is like being in foster care or growing up with foster children.
5.I hope to learn more about the process in general, how things have changed over the years, and how many children are in foster care. I would also like to learn what happens after foster care or what happens to most children in foster care.

ReplyDelete1.) I already know a lot about this culture because i am an active waterfowl hunter myself, in order to gain some information on waterfowl hunting in the past, i will have to depend on other sources and information.
ReplyDelete2.) My father has been hunting waterfowl most of his life, we hunt with a lot of his friends who also have accumulated many years of waterfowl hunting experience.
3.) Being an outsider, it would be very difficult to just randomly pick up the sport of duck hunting, many of the basic tools/equipment that are necessary to hunt waterfowl are very expensive and the skills that are also required can only be accomplished through practice and experience.
4.) I am in insider because I hunt waterfowl very frequently. I know a lot that there is to know about the sport along with some of the skills needed to be a successful hunter.
5.) Through my research, I hope to gain a better insight on the history of the sport and how the sport has progressed to where it is today. I know they're many interesting stories and things to find out about this subject.
After doing an interview of banking, I have decided I wanted to research a completely different topic. Once I became aware at how severe my cousin's disease of Lou Gehrig's disease was getting, I decided that I really wanted to learn more about his disease and how to handle it in many different situations.
ReplyDelete1. I already know some aspects of what ALS is about, but there is more information that I am curious about. I know of my cousin having it, but one of my friends mom also had it.
2. A lot of my family knows a little bit about the disease and my cousin is more than willing to talk about it openly with us.
3. It would be fairly easy to gain access to knowledge about it because there are so many websites or books to find the information out.
4. I would say I am an outsider because for one I don't have ALS and two, I don't know a whole lot about it.
5.I want to find out specifically how to care for a patient with ALS. I want to know their symptoms, cause, treatments, or just simply what is happening in the body of someone with ALS.
After interviewing family members and doing my interview on the family mansion that was lived in and then burned down decades ago, I've decided that I want to take my research paper in the same direction and look into similar structures in that were constructed around the time the house was around, researching how often the burning down of giant houses happened. I'm curious to know whether well-to-do families often abandoned their large houses due to financial or family problems, and whether or not this ended in many house fire or not.
ReplyDelete1. Other than my mother's family, I don't immediately know of any others in particular which may have been in the same situation. This is something I hope to look into though, seeing if anyone I know's has had similar incidents happen in their family history.
2.The only connections I have with this topic are through my great-aunts and what they have been able to tell me, regarding their house.
3. Because I will be dealing with a number of older books, newspapers, and hopefully internet articles, my direct involvement with this will not in any way include entering a completely different culture and affecting the people within it, per say. I still hope to get a good idea of information regarding the topic that can be used to offer some interesting insight into the topic at hand
4. I would consider myself both an insider and an outsider, because of what I have heard from family members, but also because I only know a very small amount of what there is to know about this subject.
5. My hope is that I learn more about whether or not what happened to my relatives was a common occurrence back in the time they were growing up, and if so, why so much of it happened the way it did. Family history and what happened back during the earlier parts of the 20th century interests me and I hope to gain more insight into that world.
I plan on switching to the topic of the acceptance of obesity in society. I know quite a few things. I have friends from football that are obese and some liked being that way and some didnt like it as much. I would be considered on outsider because im skinny. Are obese people, in general, self conscious? Does society, in gerneral, accept obesity?
ReplyDeleteMy second interview which was with Mike Johnston, was most interesting and valid. I plan on continuing with the subject matter of a life filled with passion and where it can lead you. In this case the area of interest is music, drumming to be specific. I am going to broaden my research and ideas on what it means to be fully committed to something that you will not settle for anything less. For Mike, he decided when he was 10 years old that drumming was going to be his source of income, his nine-to-five. From age 10 he grew and grew as a drummer and a person in a touring band to an international educator to over 2,100 people all over the world.
ReplyDeleteWhat i have learned through my interviews with my R.A. has taught me a lot about many things that you wouldn't think are connected. I was interested in learning about the area but kind of feel like i would rather change my area of research because i am satisfied with what i found out and the topic no longer interests me in the way that i would want to do a further project with it. I am still trying to decide what that might be so until that point i am just trying to provoke things that may interest me. I have heard first hand how it is to be an R.A., heard many stories, experienced also the "outside" because i am a student under "R.A. supervision" if you will but then have become an "insider" as well because of the extent to which i have gained knowledge through my interviews with miss Jane Doe. It is a job but it seems to me that once you take the job, it will re-sculpt the way your life looks.
ReplyDeleteYoutube vloggers have to be the most interesting people alive. I mean, acting. Drama. The camera in your face. Cutting and editing. Having a script. Making a new script every week. Did you know that fans get upset and will quite a site if they vlogger doesn’t update regularly? They get mad or something. I watched a vlogger tell me that once. She’s my favorite. Her name is Meekakitty on youtube but I think she also has a real name. Her name is Tessa! And her best friends name is Shawna. Omg they are both the funniest people alive. I sometimes think if I was two times funnier and had a duplicate of myself that they would be the product. I really wish I could vlog sometimes. It actually sounds like a lot of fun. Jenna Marbles is a vlogger too. I just watched video that she took about how girls get ready in the morning and what they do that takes them so long. It was hilarious and I think I watched it about eight or nine times. I just couldn’t stop laughing. I think in order to be a good vlogger you have to be quick and funny on the spot, kind of like a stand-up comedian. You also need to be quick and good at editing and being able to keep people’s attention snap snap open your eyes wake up I’m talking to you! Five go seconds go keep watching! Entertainment right at your fingertips! Watch me!
ReplyDeleteI am satisfied with these two interviews. What they talked about and what they think about the foreign language learning interest me a lot. I found that learning foreign language does provide some degree of unique experience to the learner. It makes one know more about the world beyond the local community. For Aaron, it makes contribution to his future career plan and convenience living at California. For Qing, it allows her to chase and achieve her dream. She will be a success businesswoman between China and India, and even across the Pacific Ocean. For common international students as me, it alters their life at all, as far as I am concerned.
ReplyDeleteHowever I do have some unresolved questions after conducted interviews. The interviews merely posed some of these problems on which my research will focus. Aaron said “Practice makes perfect.” But what defines a GOOD practice? Qing mentioned the unfamiliarity with western culture. What else? Something like American jokes or slangs? What is bilingual? How to have a better language environment? For now, I am concerning about how one can master a foreign language and what the impediment would be for those who want to take control of their mind when learning languages. These are going to present in the further research hopefully.
After getting the information about my grandparents story I am very interested in the topic of the “American Dream.” I would like to find more information about it and to learn about more stories similar to my grandparents.
ReplyDelete1. What is their “American Dream” story
2. How has it affected their life?
3. I am not an insider
4. My grandparents would be considered insiders
5. I would like to find out how people have been able to persevere through hard times.
Now that I have completed my first interview and paper, I decided to go a different route, not doing anything from my paper and deciding to research cults, why people join them, what is the appeal, what exactly is a cult, and what happens in a cult.
ReplyDelete1. I do not know that much about what life in a cult is
2. I have no connections to anyone in a cult.
3. I am an outsider.
4. I am an outsider because i have no experience with anything that comes with being in an actual cult or any relationship with anyone who is in a cult.
5. I hope to gain an insight on what type of people join a cult, what the warning signs are, and what actually is a cult.
