Multimodal Project: What is your tentative plan?
In 250 words, write what you are thinking about doing for your multimodal project. You might want to mention your topic, what aspect of your previous research you will focus on, what the purpose of your message will be, who you see as your audience, the types of platforms that you are considering using and why, and what ideas you have for creating in that platform. This is just a starting point for discussion and planning. If you have questions or concerns--and probably everyone does at this stage--include them in your post.

I would like to make a children's song about how homophobic oppression and negative persecution toward the gay community affects society as a whole and diminishes psychological confidence and happiness in homosexuals today. I hope to teach children that being "mean to gay people" is not a respectful thing to do, that it hurts them in more ways than one. I will have to "dumb down" the vocabulary to make it able to be comprehended by young children and make the song catchy and able to sing along to. Think "Barney" or "Dora the Explorer." I intend to make all music and lyrics 100% original and have a short music video to apply to the song. Will include short video clips to draw-in the audience and might include whistling if I can find enough people to contribute? I will be recording myself singing the song as my accompanist, Aaron Wagner, plays the music on the acoustic guitar.
ReplyDeleteSince my topic was about blogging, I think that I would like to make my own blog and post on there links to my favorite blogs and vlogs and explain why I like them and how it impacts my connections to the world and other people. I think I will update once a week with tidbits of info from each of these and use that to make a collaborative post.
ReplyDeleteI just realized that was NOT 250 words x)
ReplyDeleteSorry.
Okay, to further the explanation of my topic, I will also include links to my favorite websites, videos, articles, blogs, and anything else that I find interesting on the internet to show how interactive and connective a blog can be. I will open my site up for comments and try and get feedback from other people. I will also include links to my own website where I show my stories and my architecture projects.
I would like to make a little brochure to get people aware of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and encourage them to help find a cure. Because there is no cure for ALS, I would like to focus on that topic and make brochures to hand out with maybe a picture of my cousin, who has ALS, on there and simply just let them know that there currently is no cure. Even if they have no interest in finding a cure, I would like to put an emotional appeal in it and kind of show them what it is like to have a loved one go through it and have no way of fighting it. I may put what exactly the disease is, symptoms, and maybe a few things they could do to help whether they just donate money or participate in an ALS walk for cause.
ReplyDeleteI am continuing to work on my psychological disorders topic. I have a personal connection to this topic so i want to do something personal. I have decided to do a website or blog spot. within the site i will talk about my story and also put links to different websites that will provide more of an expert opinion on psychological disorders. i was thinking about doing different pages such as one for parents with a child who suffers from disorders. a checklist that shows some significant features of what a psychological disorder concists of. also a like to one of the websites that i turn to alot of the time that gives support to the psychological disorder sufferers. I will add pictures as well. I will also have links to differnt pages that will explain different characteristics of different psychological disorders, mainly covering the big ones. I want it to be informative but still personal so each person who visits the site feels comfotable reading about it. i will share my personal story and the struggles that i have gone through. I think it will be an interesting, informative and helpful website.
ReplyDeleteI have not fully decided on what I would like to do for my multi media project. I am going to stick with my topic of Post traumatic stress disorder and how it affects the people around the world today. I have not decided if I am going to focus on PTSD in military victims, or in all victims in general. I think I have narrowed my options down to two choices. I am focusing on choosing between creating a website and creating a power point. I would like to create a website where I can put different types of visual and audio aids. I think it would be a good way to portray the information. I would also like to use a power point because I think it would be a good and clear way to present the information. I could have different videos and pictures on the slides and it would also be a good way for me to present the information. - Michael Shipman
ReplyDeleteI plan on making a presentation about the changes in duck hunting technologies through the evolution of the sport. More specifically, I will focus on the changes of waterfowl decoys and decoy strategy through the years. I plan on doing this through either a PowerPoint/Prezi presentation or a movie through Windows Moviemaker. The audience here that I am trying to target would be anyone who is interested in the sport of waterfowl hunting and how technology has found its way into the sport. Knowing that that probably doesn’t include too many people in our English class, I will more than likely have to make the content in the presentation a little drier so that it is easier to understand for someone who is not familiar with the sport.
ReplyDeleteAs for the specifics of what my presentation will contain, I plan on first showing the audience what duck/goose decoys looked like ‘back in the day’. Ultimately I will try to give the audience a sense of simplicity with these first decoys. Then, I will show some examples of today’s most sophisticated decoys. I will explain how the use of technology gives these decoys a more realistic look by comparing them to actions of live birds. Then, I will show how the improvement of these decoys has progressed by giving examples of new and old decoys side by side. I think this will make it very clear just how far the sport has come with regards to using technology in today’s decoys.
I am still unsure as of yet what I want to do for my project. My topic is foster care and how the system should change to benefit kids and reduce long term affects, but I am still don't know how I want to present the information yet. I am thinking of doing either a website, brochure, or blog. I think any of these options would be a good way to talk about my topic. I think I am leaning more towards a website because it could have links to other sites that could give more direct information, and would be easy to access and open to anyone. A brochure also would be good because it presents the main points, and is short and easy to read for people who don’t really know much about foster care. A blog would also be interesting because it could set up a site where kids could give their own suggestions on how to make the system better. I still have yet to decide what approach I want to take, but I know whatever I choose there are some main things I want to include in it. I know I need to describe the main facts of foster care, what it is, how many children are in it, why they are in it, etc. I also want to describe the long term effects of foster care, and how the system needs to change. I might also include actual stories from kids, or their advice, and I also might include some of the laws that have been made in the past to try to make foster care better.
ReplyDeleteI am still trying to decide exactly I will go about this project. I am thinking about making a presentation about the healthy and easy to make foods children can incorporate in their lives. I will focus on making a video presenting a visual to the audience about the healthy foods children can eat. Also, my plan is to also show some substitutes to high-calorie desserts. My presentation is aimed to educate parents and their children on an easy healthy diet. This presentation will not pertain to people in the class now, but should when they get older and become parents. Handouts are also in my vision for what I want my presentation to be. The handouts would have simple recipes for snacks and a shopping list for parents. Also would contain some helpful tips to reading food labels.
ReplyDeleteSome of the foods would include vegetable and fruits for children to eat. For example, peanut butter on celery covered with raisins. I plan the food to be low in calories but high in vitamins. Whole grain bread sandwiches could be on there too. By the end I will plan on showing the benefits of eating healthy snacks. I plan on making the video and putting it on YouTube. If the video is too complicated to make, then I plan on presenting my project through Microsoft PowerPoint. My handout will probably be folded in three ways to make it look fancy. The project is still rough in my mind, but will be smoothing out those edges in the next couple weeks.
What I hope to be able to do with my multi modal project is educate the general public on my topic of research, being historic mansions and why they are important to hold onto. There is a lot of information to cover, but the best way of going about this seems to be approaching it from the angle of an online magazine, writing a few articles and having pictures that well illustrate the point I’m trying to get across by giving the information I have uncovered. I want to persuade more people to get behind preserving parts of our nation’s history that continue to fall apart by showing them examples of why these buildings are so wonderful. I’d like to have some articles, and then spread sheets of pictures that show what can happen when these structures are being preserved, and what has happened to those that have not. In a way, I want this to be like a persuasive speech, trying to engage the audience and help them understand what is going on so they can make better decisions on this topic in the future, if they choose to be involved. I would want this to reach the type of audience that is considering getting involved in historic preservation, is already involved, or even just people that are interested in the topic and want to learn more about the background of it. By summing up what I have learned, and putting it in a format that makes people want to turn the page, I hope to reach out to many people who may have not realized how important all of this history is.
ReplyDeleteI would like to make either a picture slide show or a painting slide show of how addiction affects the person who has the need for the substance they are on. I was thinking of doing something like showing a substance that a person could be addicted to and then doing different pictures showing how addiction affects their life and either ending in death or help for the person. I was thinking of asking one of my friends to help me take the pictures and use them to show it. Maybe starting out with them having a happy life, using color and then slowly making the color fade until it is all just black and white in the picture.
ReplyDeleteI plan on talking about obesity in America and how to fix it. I might do a Pecha Kucha presenation which is a, as I understand it, a presentation in which there are only pictures in the presentation and I will probably do a voice over throughout those slides. I plan on using my third project, which is our research paper that consisted a minimum of fifteen sources and was at least eight pages long. I’m not really one hundred percent sure if I will be using this type of presentation or not because I believe there is going to be a lot of difficulties with copy right infringements. I’m not sure who my audience is going to be, because it can include obese individuals, for obvious reasons, or fit athletic Americans who want to try and get the message out to get America fit. I am hoping that Mrs. Evans goes into detail about the whole copy right infringement, especially how to tell if a business or company is willing to let you use their ideas or pictures.
ReplyDeleteI plan on using a video sharing website called Vimeo to play a recording of myself. The recording will be of me talking about something... (i am not quite sure of what it will be yet) I was introduced to Vimeo from watching prerecorded lessons by the professional drummer named Mike Johnston. He has educational drum lessons on the website and i have recently become a registered user to the website. As far as I know, this is going to the basis which I perform my recording and share it with the classmates. Whether the topic be about how to become a professional musician, or a topic about drums in general or specifically the drum set, I will use Vimeo as my tool to share my video.
ReplyDeleteI plan on creating a website that incorporates audio, video, photos, and art together. Although I have several ideas as to what my project will specifically cover, I'm still brainstorming and working them out in my head. In my interview essay, I interviewed a musician from my hometown. I definitely plan to include some of his music, as well as the music of other local musicians in my project. My topic for the research paper was much broader and more general than the topic of my interview essay. For this project I think I would like to get more specific and personal again, while somehow relating it all back to the grand scheme of things written about in my research paper.
ReplyDeleteI’m not completely sure of what exactly to do yet for my multimodal project. I was thinking about either creating a game show or some kind of activity that could include the whole class. Instead of watering down my entire topic of gender identity, I want to focus on the differences between gender and sex. I plan on taking some of my main points from the section of “Gender and Sex in Society” and create either a short game show piece or just trivia for the class to respond to. Both would feature questions and additional information about the content. I want the class to basically understand what that gender and sexuality are different and that we are forced to portray roles in society. There is a website that allows you to make an interactive power point presentation. I’m not sure of the name of it yet, but I think it will be a good platform for me to present my topic to everyone.
ReplyDeleteFor project 4 I am still exploring my options for the multimodal project. I have not decided which avenue I want to use but I am interested in using Glogster, which is basically like an online poster board that allows you to customize it and add videos if you wish. Another option is to just create my own website and put information and videos about my topic of cults. My topic of cults encompasses how to spot those who are in cults (what traits they normally show, so you can help those you suspect of joining cult life), what happens once inside (like the brainwashing and love-bombing), how to help members of cults (how to get them out of cults and what to do once you get them out) and educating those who are not yet apart of cults (how to avoid them). I will talk about such cults as The People’s Temple and maybe Charles Manson’s The Family to make an impact and just do some background. I also plan on talking about the difference between religions and cults, and the fact that many religions started as cults. Also what some people see as mainstream religions could be considered cults. I see my audience as those who are not in cults yet so I can educate them on what cults are and what dangers they pose. I am taking the standpoint that there is not enough education about cults, despite the horrors that deaths that are attributed to cults.
ReplyDeleteMy plan for my multimodal project is to use my Ball State web space and create a page dedicated to Autism and the possible techniques to aid in the alleviation of the symptoms, associated with it. I plan on incorporating sources from specialized schools and experts that will help parents and educators. I will use several of the more popular learning styles which were incorporated in my research paper. These styles will be showcased on separate pages that define the style and provide links to real web pages that will offer valuable information on the topic. My hope is that my site will provide helpful information for whomever comes across it. I need to find a model, or an autistic person to allow me to use his or her photograph. My point of view will be through the eyes of a person who been around people with autism.
ReplyDeleteFor project 4, i am not sure the topic i want to pursue. I do not want to use the same topic as i have been with the previous research project. I do know that i was to make some kind of movie. I will probably make a movie using final cut or movie maker. I have made videos before and felt that it was pretty easy and i had fund while doing it.
ReplyDeleteI plan on presenting a simple how to recognize the blues process. I will show the three styles of blues first and explain the basic history and origin of said styles. Then i will show the differences in recognizing them. I will use imovie maker to present all of this information. I will have different styles of music in the background every time I switch styles ao the can hear the difference. I will also have pictures of different artists along with the music and that way they can create neurological connections and remember it better. I feel that this Is not particularly beneficial to anyone in any practical sense, but I feel that this might give them a better understanding of American history and give them a better appreciation of music. They will know how to recognize the three simple styles of blue.

ReplyDeleteHonestly, I am still quite indecisive on how to tackle my multi-modal project. I will be utilizing my research paper and will likely just water down the content to make it easier to pass on. I know that I have no direct purpose or desire aside from just educating people; I may still touch on the cultural issue that was the crux of my paper but I do not intend to move anyone to action or anything beyond mere contemplation of the situation. There is a podcast that I listen to quite regularly called Radio Lab that spends its time addressing various topics and I would really like to do something like that. Just a bit of history, semantics, and maybe touch on the issue of gairaigo usage in Japanese language. I intend to be very neutral and my intention is only to inform. I will be as thorough in explaining both sides of the situation as I can.
I want to use a medium that is the most appropriate for my purpose and material. I believe that a podcast is the best way to do this as it is more engaging than a presentation and although it provides only one sensory input, I think it is easier to understand than a medium with multiple sensory inputs. The biggest issue that I have discovered so far with my idea is that podcasts are hardly ever just one person so I still really need to think it over still.
I think I will do a video, on second language learners. Basicly, I will film American speakers attempting to speak and understand a paragraph in several different languages from Wikipedia. This demonstrates the difficulty in speaking a language not native to your own. I will have an intro first. And video clips and some brief explanations will follow.
